Why SDS (MSDS) is required ?

1. Requirements of the law (in Malaysia and many other countries in the world)
2. As an important safety information for the persons handling/using/transporting the chemicals
3. For international transportation (seafreight, airfreight, export, import, etc) - a must have document, especially important to identify Dangerous Goods cargo
4. With a SDS document, the hazards (or non-hazard) of any chemicals can be identified easily. Information on precautions can be applied when normal handling / emergency situation occurs.

The new SDS requirements in Malaysia is based on GHS format. Additionally, the SDS must be available in English and Bahasa Melayu languages.

One thing that is equally important is the labelling of the chemicals (on the packaging), labelling should be given attention as much as SDS.

* SDS (safety data sheet) is also known as MSDS (material safety data sheets) and CSDS (chemical safety data sheet).
